  9. Tween/Teen Parenting Advice...(more) 1-18-2017 4:56pm (13 replies)
My daughter started 6th grade this school year and turned 12 in Oct. She has a so-called friend that she has been off and on friends with. The little girl has told her she can't be her friend twice now. My daughter also asked the little girl to be her gf, that is the latest reason the girl says she can't be her friend. My child doesn't even understand what it means to be gay. I don't know how to talk to her about this. I did my best when the situation first broke. The girl has threatened to tell the whole school that my daughter is gay and asked her to be her girlfriend. She also continues to message her on social media and passing notes in class. Today the little girl wants to be her friend again. Anyone have advice on what I can say to my daughter?? She is scared to tell the girl she doesn't want to be her friend.

I made sure to explain to her that it probably made the girl feel uncomfortable. But that doesn't justify the girl threatening to tell the other kids at school. Also she may know that, but she doesn't know what it means to be gay. She just thought it would mean they were closer than just friends.

making things worse by not talking to her about this. This friend is the least of her worries if she feels you wouldn't support her. As for the friend, there is no reason for your dd to declare they are not friends. She just needs to put some distance between herself and the friend. Start by telling the friend that you took her phone away and stop texting her for a while.

  21. Tween/Teen Question about gift for 12-year-old...(more) 12-12-2016 9:57am (3 replies)
Hey Moms! Kasha here, I'm seeking some advice regarding a Christmas gift for my 12-year-old daughter. I like to get her things that will inspire her morally/politically, or get her motivated to think about important issues. She's very bright; for example, last year I got her a book by Michael Moore about current events and she read and understood all of it. She's really into wolves right now, so I was thinking about getting her a dreamcatcher with a picture of a wolf on it (so that she-hopefully-is inspired to learn about Native American culture, symbols, and folklore.) I'm looking at the dreamcatchers on www.wolfdreamcatchersworld.com I don't really want to get the super expensive one...any opinions on which of the cheap ones looks the most well-made and authentic? And what do you guys think about this idea of using gifts t
