to say it's ok to prioritize a consistent household routine, it doesn't make you an anal-retentive rigid loon, it can be a positive choice. There are plenty of pressures to stretch your family life to embrace all these wonderful extras; there is not a lot of "chatter" in day to day parenting about "gosh, I turned down travel baseball on behalf of my 11 year old, and I have really enjoyed not spending 30 minutes driving daily and instead use that time to sit around our house on our schedule", kwim?

to meet the road somewhere. If that's working for your family, great, but if my child is emotionally disregulated, I'm not going to sacrifice their emotional stability for rec department t-ball. The kid will survive missing out on t-ball fun. My sanity, their emotional health, and my marriage might not survive the two days of tantrums that the late off-schedule t-ball night spawns.

Sometimes you feel too tired or busy to go through a routine or start it on time, but pushing it back or not going through with it even once can derail everything. I promise if you stick with routines, you will never have struggles around those things and it makes things so much easier in the long run.
