I am very anxious but dh will not allow me to use any SSRIs (yes, allow) because I have a strong history of brain issues in my family. I think being on here makes it worse.

They didnt knock her out, they just stopped the hysteria and frightening hallucinations and she stopped always screaming she was going to call the police. Her terminal DX was "wasting", and hospice said the anxiety was really the driving force behind it. She worried herself to death but it took years.

Totally different class of drugs. I think benzos make anxiety worse long terms, even if they help temporarily and they are very habit forming, so I wouldn't even go that route anyway.
