years etc. then all that ended when they got competition from japan. they closed factories, cut salaries, etc. even if the factories are open they're not hiring the number of people they were (robots) or at the salaries. they can't. a ford escort would cost $100,000 but i don't know if they can see that when all they are living in horrible neighborhoods with houses devalued to literally nothing etc.
