for publication, your payment will also be delayed. And even once your book is published, you turn in your manuscript, etc the money owed to you will take weeks to go through the system, even if you have an agent making a fuss. It's a really hard way to live if you depend on your writerly income for every day use. Much easier to have a PT or FT job and use writing money as 'gravy'.
