My now 6th grade dds has been one to pick up a book, read a few chapters and then drop it and move on to another book for the last two years or so. in 4th and 5th grade teachers...
said she was reading well, despite this seeming inability to find a book and stick with it. 6th grade teacher suggested i have her read aloud to me. now i get it. she stumbles over lots of words. it's like 4th and 5th grade teachers just waived her up reading levels without making sure she got it. thank god her 6th grade teacher finally said something
My 4th grader is a good reader, but does not like to pick up a long chapter book and stick with it. He will listen to books on tape happily, though, so we've been doing that....(more)10-28-2013 11:29pm
Sometimes he follows along, sometimes not. I feel listening will lead to better reading, especially since we take turns picking what he'll listen to--I'll chose something more challenging, he'll choose something a bit less. With luck , it will help a bit.
