Burbs house help! wwyd: house 1 we had a viscerally positive reaction to, felt like "home," can do all the renos we want w/in our budget, but is on busy street and would be... (more)
(we don't mind, is set back/fenced yard) but will be trickier to re-sell. house 2 will be a breeze to resell (set on quiet, neighborhood street), but house itself feels stepfordy, dull, don't have a positive visceral reaction to it but it has great space (just...well, kind of ugly) and is at the top of our budget, so we couldn't reno right away. go for the house we "like" or the house that has what we need and could resell easier but we don't really "like?"

- op: i guess we could make the ugly one more likable with some decor assistance? i dunno 2-3-2013 7:58am
- You could but if it doesn't have the layout, etc that you like it will be expensive. Is one larger than other? 2-3-2013 7:59am
- yes, it is a bit larger. but we plan to add to the one we like to make it bigger. 2-3-2013 7:59am

- what is your plan? if this is the house you will live in until you retire, i'd buy what you like and not worry about the resale. 2-3-2013 7:58am
- op: hard to know, but we would hope to live there for at least a decade 2-3-2013 7:59am
- well, a decade goes by very fast. if you don't think this is long-term, then maybe go with the one that's an easier resell. because if you end up needing to sell, a hard sell...(more) 2-3-2013 8:00am

- Definitely do not pick the house you don't like. Either go with the other one or wait until something better comes along. 2-3-2013 7:59am
- op: thanks, all. but i don't HATE the other one. i wonder if i could learn to like it with the right decor, for example, even if we can't reno right away. 2-3-2013 8:00am
