WWYD? Have 8 ft of wall space I want to use for toy storage. There is a unit I love at pottery barn kids that $1400. there's a similar unit at JCPenny I don't love as much for... (more)
$900 and then there are plain shelves at ikea I could get that are functional but I don't really like them for $300. The catch is that we will not be in this house forever, another 5 years tops. worth it to buy an expensive piece even though it may or may not be usable in the future? or get the piece I love and try to make it work in whichever house we end up in?

- jcp one (imagine with cubbies instead of a media center)...(more) 8-4-2011 11:58am
- I like the JCP one more...why do you like the PB one better? The short/deep shelves are the only difference 8-4-2011 12:00pm
- the base shelves are a big difference for me and I prefer the wood color options at pbk 8-4-2011 12:02pm
- I think it's better to get something that is painted in the long run. I've had wood shelves before (from Room + Board) and they got scratched. 8-4-2011 12:04pm
- Imagine in a playroom, those baskets and sharp toys are going to be pulled on and off there all of the time - lots of wear and tear on the wood laminate surface. 8-4-2011 12:06pm
- ^and you'd have to put felt onthe bottom of all of the baskets, too. 8-4-2011 12:06pm
- that's a good point. thanks 8-4-2011 12:06pm
- ever consider getting something unfinished and get it painted/stained on site? That way, you can always do touchups 8-4-2011 12:07pm

- So now that I see both, the truth is they're practically the same, except PB is beautifully styled in the photo. Will it really look that different than the JCP on, once all your...(more) 8-4-2011 12:00pm
- the pbk one has an open shelves option for the base whereas the jcp one only has cubbies, which I don't really like. - Then it depends on how much money you have. (And I'm sure you'll be able to use it whereever you move to.) 8-4-2011 12:04pm
- we can afford it the pbk one but it's $500 more than the jcpenny one. ugh, hate the idea I'd be wasting $500 8-4-2011 12:05pm

- I have found that most pieces can be reused in a new setting. Buy the piece you like the best for that spot. There will always be a mudroom or landing where you can use it. 8-4-2011 11:58am
- ^also when you eventually sell, the buyer might like it. 8-4-2011 11:59am
- 5 years is a long time, I'd go for the nicer piece if I could afford it. 8-4-2011 12:03pm
