DD is 12mo, the only liquid she'll take is water and breastmilk (refuses milk, chocolate milk, juice). But she downs water like nobody's business... she can drink 3/4 of her sippy cup...

without even taking the spout from her mouth. She drinks maybe 8-10 sippy cups of water a day (also does about 4 BFings, and eats 3 meals and 1-2 snacks). Is this too much water? A possible sign of something? How can I get her to drink milk?

- ask ped. The only thing that comes to mind is diabetes - causes excessive thirst, I've heard 8-1-2008 2:29pm
- Yes, I've heard that too which is why I am a little worried it's a health issue. We have her 12mo appt. next week, so I'm going to ask then. 8-1-2008 2:29pm
- IMO, that's too much water. try adding a little milk to breastmilk and slowly decrease amount of breastmilk. Have you tried warming the milk? could be a temperature thing, too. 8-1-2008 2:31pm
- Hmm, I hadn't thought of that. I will try that. 8-1-2008 2:32pm
- my DD was the same and strangely around 16 months she decided she loved milk and now drinks it down 8-1-2008 2:33pm
- That's heartening. 8-1-2008 2:34pm
- my dd wa like this (although she did drink milk) drank what seemed excessive qtys of water (woke up thirsty through the night). She did have some digestive problems (silnet reflux and a ...(more) 8-1-2008 2:37pm

- Yeah, she has no digestive problems and eats like a horse (breakfast for me this morning: frozen waffle. breakfast for her: frozen waffle, banana, handful of blueberries, handful of...(more) 8-1-2008 2:39pm
cheerios, some crackers). I guess I also might be overthinking this since is IS so hot... it's probably good she's drinking plenty.
- not too scare you, but my dd ate TONS (still does, has a high metab and is very active)....(more) 8-1-2008 2:45pm
we had no idea anything was wrong until she stopped gaining weight. But, as I said, I think the thirst thing was unrelated. GL, she probably drinks so much water since she drink no milk (and the heat...)
- My kids never drank milk, I wouldn't worry about it. And it's hot out, lots of water in the summer is ok (though that does sound like a lot - are we talking 3oz at a time or 10?). 8-1-2008 2:46pm
