- np. Anyone know how these schools have handled hybrid/remote/in-person learning this year? 2-27-2021 12:50pm
- Riverdale has been very cautious but handled it well. Started the school year a bit early to take advantage of low rates and good weather. Put up many tents to take advantage of...(more) 2-27-2021 4:59pm the campus. Kids weren't in person as much as parents would have liked but they've ramped it up and highschool will be in about 7 out of every 10 days. Fieldston has its hands tied because teachers are unionized. In-person started very late so they missed good weather, low rates and keep getting shut down due to positive cases.
- Thank you. Are you happy with the high school at riverdale? Is the faculty supportive? Are kids crushed with work or able to have balance/activities, etc? 2-27-2021 6:54pm

- If you're not "super work" Riverdale. Fieldston is in the process of imploding. See also, Dalton. 2-27-2021 4:56pm
- Woke 2-27-2021 4:59pm
- Tell me more about Fieldston imploding. What’s going on? Np 2-27-2021 4:59pm
- continuous turnover of leadership, unionized faculty, struggling to meet student demands from protest that they "agreed to". The only positive about the whole thing is that they...(more) 2-27-2021 5:01pm
- I have kids there (and I went there). None of this is implosion. The faculty has been unionized for decades, the major administrative turnover ended a few years ago. This isn't...(more) 2-27-2021 5:04pm even the first time they had a student strike. The school is not everyone's cup of tea, but there is no implosion.
- what do you mean turnover ended? the principal leaving after 3 years, previous one after 2 years... no continuity or ability to make progress 2-27-2021 5:08pm
- The Asst Principals are new... I could go on 2-27-2021 5:09pm
- Four years in pretty typical for these jobs, and for assistant principals -- the hotel ambitious mid-career people who eventually get HOS jobs. That's not turnover. 2-27-2021 5:12pm
- ^^^ hire, not hotel. In any case, as I said, different schools work for different kids and families, but there's no dramatics, beyond what there always has been. 2-27-2021 5:14pm
- Ok, well they haven't had a principal who stayed for more than 3 in the past decade. 2-27-2021 5:21pm
- The avg at Fieldston in the past 10 years is 2.5 2-27-2021 5:30pm
- In which division? Rob's been there for a while and GB was there for decades. Upper has had 3 in 9 years, about to have another, not sure about middle. 2-27-2021 5:32pm
- Upper, it's the hardest division to manage and has no long-term administrators. Faculty is unmanageable. Middle has an interim principal, previous one left after 3 years in the p....(more) 2-27-2021 6:58pm
- You're forgetting all the interims. Leadership cannot sustain at Fieldston. They need someone with a real backbone and faculty will not allow it 2-28-2021 11:07am

- Fieldston is most definitely not imploding. 2-27-2021 4:59pm
- I would think the kid Hs a preference, they do have different vibes. Both very good schools. 2-27-2021 7:05pm
- difficult for kit to get a vibe when the process is fully virtual... 2-28-2021 12:51am
- Here are some differences: Academically, Riverdale is a more supportive environment. Fieldston expects much more independence. If your child is very verbal, self-motivated they...(more) 2-28-2021 11:13am can do really well at Fieldston. If they need more of a high touch system, Riverdale is better. Culturally, Fieldston is very progressive and political. Kids will learn a lot about Critical Race Theory. They have to do social justice work that is focused on marginalized groups (can't be climate change or animal welfare). Riverdale is more intent on welcoming different points of views. Fine and performing arts are better at Fieldston. Leadership is more stable and better at Riverdale. Fieldston's campus is nicer but Riverdale's is better maintained and updates (IMO). Fieldston is a more diverse and "woke" community, Riverdale is more ok with the level of wealth that exists.
- ^^ at Fieldston your kid likely will not study WW1, WW2 and the holocaust unless they find a way to fit it in as an elective. But they will study interesting histories of...(more) 2-28-2021 11:15am otheroppressed nations. You have to really ask yourself what you want in terms of education.

- I wouldn't worry too much about that. Both schools have their share of wealth and "fast" kids. Both also have nice kids, sporty kids, academic kids, artsy kids. Yours will find...(more) 2-28-2021 1:51pm
