    What do you think is the unofficial minimum score needed to be a competitive HS applicant? I understand grades, recs, essays, etc. all part of the full picture.

    • I think those schools prefer the ISEE. My kids took both. At a minimum, for SSAT, 90th percentile on all sections. As for ISEE, a couple of 9s at least and nothing below a 7 1-4-2021 1:53pm

            We can swing private but we want to ensure the money is a good investment and gets us into TT HS. But seems like many of the K-8 programs are not TT so exmissions can be a nightmare?

      Reading these boards and it seems like exmissions is a significant challenge at private K-8 schools. My kid is bright and we're involved parents so leaning towards sticking to public K-5 at the moment and supporting test prep. If covid hadn't happened we wouldn't even be considering private elementary.

        they own. However, they don't have enough for private for 2 kids. They are creative types and do add to the community where most of the white families are lawyers or bankers. These families "blend" in and you'd never guess they were on aid.

      very open about supporting current families, so there may not be as much to go to new families as in previous years. Also, families have left which makes the grades smaller and the schools need to make up for the lost tuition.

      ability to advocate for yourself are very useful. There have been a lot of tests vs projects, but ds is now a sophomore and I’m beginning to see more of a mix. I think the meeting science program can offer a lot if your kid takes advantage

    I told her it was not true, but she doesn’t seem to believe me. Is it normal for kids this age to talk about death and being afraid of dying? Any advice on how handle this? She says she doesn’t want to celebrate new year or her birthday, or even talk about her age, because she thinks she will die soon. It is so freaky, I don’t know what to do.

      There is no issue. Classes are very engaging and kids have no trouble focusing. Teenagers are used to being surrounded by distractions, and focusing is not a problem at Calhoun.

    To be honest, the open floor plan school was a turn off when we were looking for an elementary school, but considering it as a back up for 9th grade applications. Love that the school is small but is it hard for kids to concentrate at 9th-12th grade level tasks? Seems like it would be too noisy??
