  10. Elementary 2nd grade boys in showers...(more) 11-23-2015 4:32pm (3 replies)
My son is a second grader. Recently he and about five of his friends, all in second grade, were in a shower room after a pool party. From outside I could hear that there was some misbehavior in the shower and that my son was involved. So I stepped in and corrected him - nothing serious, typical 7 yr. boy stuff involving snapping a towel at the others. I was afraid that they would be running and someone would slip.

After I stepped out another mother took me aside and said that she was unhappy with me, that a 7 yr old should only be seen naked by his own mother, not by other women.

Was she right? Was it wrong for me to see boys, not my own, naked? I have no problem with other women - his friends' moms, pediatricians, teenage baby sitters, etc. seeing my son naked. To me, it seems perfectly normal for a female (mom, baby sitter, doctor, mom's friends and friends' mom, etc.) to see boys that are a lot younger than them naked.

do extra stuff. On the whole, they seem to live in fancy apartments, but they have by and large excelled, themselves, in school and career. There are occasional celebrities, and loads of bankers/lawyers, but EVERYONE appears to be very effective. In my experience, the parents are perfectly nice, and I've seen minimal snootiness, but I can feel the expectation that I remain very competent for 13 years. Many of my friends chose public for their own kids and were very clear about their disappointment that I chose private, and, aside from the money and the possibility that the children become snobs or feel intimidated by the wealth, I think their biggest discomfort would be the notion that they'd need to play a somewhat uptight A game everyday for 13 years.

My ds is 9 and plays a sport that he absolutely loves! He does fairly well at it too. I have a friend with a child on the same team who really excels at the sport. He is a great kid and I really like the mom too. However, she is the type who will brag endlessly on social media. I am always very positive and upbeat and will always complement her child on his accomplishments but I feel like a bit of a fake since I'm really feeling very jealous. Ugh! My name is Dr. Mac. I am passionate about high quality music for kids. Music that inspires as well as entertains. I was a songwriter and music director of the hit PBS show, “Jay Jay the Jet Plane.” Also a child psychologist and co-director of the Family Therapy Institute of Santa Barbara, I have learned the value of boosting kids’ character, social and emotional skills. On my new website, HappyKidsSongs.com, I'm offering a couple of free songs from our eight award-winning children's albums. I am hoping to get feedback from parents, as well as suggestions for future song themes.

Thanks so much for your help!
