My cousin is meeting with her dd's teachers tomorrow (1st grade) about dd not being at grade level. cousin was telling me that she's pissed at the teachers for not telling her...
sooner, shes insisting that her and dh see no problems at home, and that her friend who is also a teacher said the standards have changed and they are so hard now that lots of kids arent at grade level anymore. all i could advise her was to go into tomorrows meeting supporting a collaborative approach and that the best thing to do for her dd is to be open to hearing what her teachers have to say. i don't get why some people are so defensive!

- she is in panic mode, that is not easy to hear. hopefully she will freak out and then it will pass and she will figure out what to do 1-31-2013 9:50pm
- honestly it's natural. Encourage her to get an outside eval and follow thru if they recommend anything 1-31-2013 9:52pm
- Because I don' t think parents should have to wait until half way through the year to be advised of this. 1-31-2013 9:55pm
- Have they been sending home finished work and grades on projects and assessments all along? Why wouldn't they have known all along that the kid was behind? 1-31-2013 9:57pm
