wwyd? my 3rd grader has mild adhd and anxiety...she says she is struggling to complete in-class math problems and has a hard time understanding math in general......(more) (... (more)
she says when she works with a partner on completing math problems in class she has trouble doing it in the time allotted. The partner gives her grief about it and the whole situation is stressing her out. She is definitely slow to catch on to new math concepts and quick to get frustrated about it. I emailed the teacher asking what specific concepts dd was having problems with so we could practice at home -- she didn't answer this. When I told her dd said she couldn't finish problems in time, she claimed that dd was often done first. In general I am finding this teacher very hard to work with--what should my next step be? Ask her to pair dd with a more understanding partner? Repeat my request for extra math practice at home? It's turning into this "he said, she said" situation, where my dd says one thing and the teacher says another--and in the meantime, dd is still struggling.

- how could teacher say DD is finished first if Dd says she's not done. who is crazy? 12-20-2011 2:13pm

- at the risk of sounding like a nutcase, i'd ask if i can come in to observe. it's really the only way you'll know how she is really acting. i'd also ask for a more understanding...(more) 12-20-2011 2:14pm partner, though it's tough to find a 3rd grader who's kind all the time. i'd also ask the teacher again if there's any info she can provide for you to help dd with at home. gl!
- op: DD has an Occupational Therapist who works on her handwriting, etc ,and on dd staying organized in class. The o/t has observed her before....(more) 12-20-2011 2:18pm I am a little reluctant to get her involved because I want to try to work things out with the teacher, but the teacher seems so uncooperative that I wonder if I should bring the 3rd party in again...or will that be inflammatory to the teacher, like I am checking up on her?

- op: they do but teacher is making it sound like only kids with an IEP get this help. Not sure if this is actually the case. DD has a 504 plan. 12-20-2011 2:16pm
