12 y/o ds just diagnosed with add (or ADHD predominantly inattentive)and LD NOS (processing speed) I initiated the assessment because his ISEE and two years of ERB scores were stunningly low i.e. 1st stanine for qunatitative reasoning even though he is in accelerated math in school. I'm in a bit of shock right now. He is a really good student and I don't know what to think. He was marginally cooperative during the testing but the Drs think it didn't influence the result. He doesn't know and I'm not sure I should tell him and shake his confidence. Dr wants him to have weekly session with a learning spec to learn how to "think" and study and organize facts etc. Does this sound familiar - is that a good way to remediate? tia

  9. Elementary Anxiety over coughing...(more) 3-18-2013 6:22pm (37 replies)
I have been fighting issues with my child being sick for over 2 months now. We took her to a doctor at least three times. Once she was given antibiotics and was allergic to them. Then she was given a different type of antibiotic which seemed to shut down her respiratory infection, but never really got rid of her cough fully. Now, I'm certain that she has allergies (we all do right now) and every time she coughs, I feel like I'm losing my mind. I have a good, loving relationship with my child, so why do I feel so resentful and insane every time I hear her cough? It's constant. I stay at home with my child and her father is our income source. He refuses to take her to another doctor, even though I insist she has allergies and we just need to take her to someone who will deal with that. I am at my wit's end.

It's a wet cough. It's not worse at night, but it is worse in the morning, which is when my allergies are the worst right now, too. I'm not coughing, but I am a slave to clearing out my sinuses. When she's with me, I try to keep her sinuses clear, too. But when she's with her dad, it gets worse because he doesn't do anything or the allergens are worse at his house. It just occurred to me that I should put a humidifier in her room at night, perhaps.

I just remembered my friend telling me about this doctor that she really likes and I looked up their website. They have a no health insurance plan for their facilities and I've heard good things about them. It's only $40 a month for one person. I can probably pull that off on the small amount of money I make (usually about $400 a month, which I spend on groceries).

Hi, I have recently adopted a 10 year old boy from providence, RI. I began visits with him close to two years ago. He came with a particular unpleasant smell. Initially I thought that it was something that he was eating with his then foster mother. When he came to live with me we ate a very similar diet, so diet had to be ruled out. I then thought perhaps it was hereditary, and that when he was feeing particularly stressed the smell would increase. His room began to smell like it, his shoes, his gas. I found in his history that he had some sort of gastrointestinal problems, but nothing specific. I would get calls from the school nurse that he was having stomach aches during school. He would also asked to go to the bathroom repeatedly and directly after eating. He has not reached puberty. Sometimes the smell will just "puff" out of him, not via anal gas. I had his doctor take fecal samples (not fun), the results were unfounded. I know that it is something, but I don't kno
